For the recap, I only really liked a handful of dresses and many I really thought left more for me to want. Check out some of the colors and silhouettes to watch for this red carpet season:
My oh my were the bright colors on display!! I have to give it up to these ladies, they really went for it and they truly were the highlight and some of the best dressed from the Emmy red carpet. Julie Bowen in Monique Lhuillier- in my opinion was marvelous, I would even say the absolute highlight of the night in that knock out strapless gown that fit her wonderfully. Following the trend Julianne Moore in Dior Haute Couture, Leslie Maan in Naeem Khan, Ginnifer Goodwin in Monique Lhuillier, Padma Lakshmi in Monique Lhuillier and Kat Deeley in Andrew Gn gown all looking gorgeous as well.
Classic:
Every red carpet, there is a group of ladies that go for classic elegance with a daring touch of trend, either with color or silhouette- these ladies did just that. First of all, I don't care what anyone says- Edie Falco looked absolutely delightful in Stella McCarthy- this dress was fun, slimming and gave her so much personality- I didn't even recognize it was her at first!! Loving those teasing lines Stella keeps doing, they really work well on the red carpet. Then we have Jessica Pare in a beautiful white gown by Jason Wu, Tina Fey in a gorgeous plum Vivienne Westwood (what a great upgrade from that horrible dress 2 years ago) and my FAV actress Kat Dennings of two broke girls in a wine colored J. Mendel.
Updated Ball Gowns
Now, I know a lot of people really weren't loving January Jones in this asymmetric wired gown by Zac Posen but it really fits her red carpet personality. It's a great couture gown and she is known for wearing pieces that are a little more fashion forward than the norm. Then there is Zoey Deschannel in Reem Acra. I am a bit love/hate with this dress because I love how perfect it fits her, her quirky personality really shows and it did look very lovely on camera but i hate the fact that she looks like Cinderella. I keep waiting to see the picture with the mice and the broken pumpkin running right behind her. Is it just me?
Aqua Mermaid Overload
I am sorry, but I don't get and I really did not like any of these looks. Let me say that upfront before you read on and are disappointed in me. Sofia Vergara, which I LOVE has disappointed me sooooo much in this awful hoochie sequenced pageant/prom gown from Zuhair Murad (Ugh!). Then Nicole Kidman in her statue esq white high neckline with aqua sequenced gown by Antonio Berardi. Then Heidi Klum, which I was told I had to see on the screen and didn't picture well in a double slit Alexandre Vauthier couture piece- not that I hated it that much, I just thought the silhouette and the color really didn't do much for her. Finally, dancing with stars alum Julianne Hough- again another person that I love in this Mermaid Georges Hobeika piece that had sooooo much potential. First, it's sooooo overdone. petals, sequence and detailed seams?? NO. Then that horrible tuxedo pleating on the cups!! AND the cups did not fit her!! All came to a horrible end with her hair and make up- it just was waaaaaayyyyy too much. I am so sad because she normally looks so well put together, ahhh sigh.
On to the next red carpet, where hopefully there will be more positive reviews....
